If you a regular blogger or someone who writes for the web, you’re know how important is the keyword research.
You must make sure you do keyword discovery and optimize your content if you want to be found in search engine results. And if you want others to find your website, you must find the right keywords to use in your content.
There are many marketing tools available to find the right keywords. Google Keyword Planner used to be the most popular tool to use. It is still very useful and relevant and I often use it for additional keyword research. It lost some of its important data, so it seems it’s being used less because of this.
Previously this article focused on Ubbersuggest and this section is still can be found below, but due to restrictions and limits put on a free account this article will now include more tools that can be used for keyword discovery
Neil Patel, who is one of the best content marketers around, has an amazing blog and podcast, which you should check it out. He also oversees several other premium and free SEO tools, like Answer The Public (I do miss that grumpy old man who was there before).

Ubbersuggest is a decent tool. The earlier version gave you much more features and search capabilities. Now the free account is fairly limited. If you’re looking for a decent too, you may want to consider buying their lifetime license which is only $290 and you are all set.
Ubersuggest is fairly easy to use for keyword discovery and to find long-tail keywords when creating content. Its data is pulled straight from Google Keyword Planner and Google Suggest without the need to log in. I found rankings to be less accurate than SEMRush and ahrefs, but I guess like with everything you get what you pay for.
Ubersuggest Keyword Research Features
You simply put the keyword you want to research and Ubbersuggest returns the list of related keywords with data that includes search volume, cost per click, and competition ratio. Many other tools offer more data, but if you’re starting out and looking to quickly find valuable keywords and get keyword suggestions to use in your blog, Ubersuggest is a good tool to try.
In addition to the list of keywords, you also can see the volume the key phrases receive, as well as SD (SEO Difficulty score), CPC (cost-per-click), and PD (Paid Difficulty).
Another great feature you can find is a list of Content ideas about each search. This will show you the top articles that rank for these keywords. You can use this information to come up with similar ideas and brainstorm various topics when planning your next blog.
Finally, there is another useful feature. At the top of the keyword list, you’ll find additional links, Related, Questions, Comparison, etc. You can use these to brainstorm and explore additional data to generate more topic ideas.
A free account limits you to a few searches each day and the results get cut off. With a free account, you can get a decent amount of information. For example here is the results page I received after typing a key phrase without logging in to my premium account.
When you do searches, focus on keywords and phrases that have the lowest competition and the highest search volume when creating your content.
You can click on many of the links, numbers, and dropdowns to drill further.
Before you start writing a post, go to Ubbersuggest and perform a quick keyword discovery search to help narrow down the topic and decide on what keywords to use. This way your content will likely rank higher and show up more prominently in search engine results. And even though you might not see the results right away, over time if you use this keyword discovery tool consistently, you will likely see solid growth and a boost in traffic over time.
Finally, Neil is constantly adding new features and now the tool has many new features. You can look up top web pages of a specific website, what top keywords they’re ranking for and so much more.
UberSuggest Browser Extension
Ubersuggest also offers a highly useful browsing extension for anyone looking to optimize their SEO efforts. It especially helpful when you perform searches or want to analyze a specific page.
After you install it, go to any website and after clicking it, you will see basic stats then go to the Ubersuggest website to find more info if you need it.
With its free and user-friendly interface, Ubersuggest provides valuable insights into keyword search volume, CPC, and competition data. The extension seamlessly integrates with popular platforms like Google, YouTube, and Amazon, allowing users to obtain keyword suggestions directly from their searches. Additionally, Ubersuggest offers features such as graphs, trends, and traffic estimations, making it a comprehensive tool for SEO analysis.
Ubersuggest is only one of a few keyword research tools available. There are many other amazing tools you can use. Below are a few more free keyword discovery tools you can use.
Yes, SEMRush is a paid tool and it can be somewhat expensive. However, they do offer a free tier for people to use it and test it out. The free plan gives allows you to set up a project for a single website. Furthermore, you do about 10 searches each day with limited results. But for someone who wants to do a quick search and find a few relevant keywords, this might be all you need.
For example, here are the results you get when you search for Domain Overview using a free account.
So as you can see you can get a decent amount of information using a free SEMRush account.
